2016 data for Rio Rancho’s four high schools and for the school district reveals the district’s composite scores for graduating seniors taking the test beat the state and national averages.  The district composite score of 21.5 exceeds the state’s 19.9 and the nation’s 20.8 composite scores.   Scores in all four tested subject areas – English, math, reading, and science – were also above the state and national averages.

The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement test designed to measure the skills and knowledge taught in school and deemed important for first-year college students to possess.  The ACT is widely accepted by colleges and universities in New Mexico and all major colleges and universities across the nation.

The chart below shows all of Rio Rancho’s high schools along with the state and national averages in each category.

The ACT data also considers the percentage of students found to be “college ready” in four subject areas: College Biology, College Social Science, College Algebra, and College English Composition.  ACT establishes benchmark scores in each subject area that indicates chances of earning a B or C in credit-bearing college courses.  In each of the four areas, the percentage of Rio Rancho students meeting or surpassing ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks is above the state average.  Over one quarter of our students – 29% -- were found to be college-ready in all four subject areas.  This exceeds the state average by 10% and the national average by 3%. In addition, we saw an increase in our score from last year by 2%.
